Nori Rat VEGF-B ELISA Kit
Price range: $508.00 through $916.00
This ELISA kit is for quantification of VEGF-B in rat. This is a quick ELISA assay that reduces time to 50% compared to the conventional method, and the entire assay only takes 3 hours. This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique and uses biotin-streptavidin chemistry to improve the performance of the assays. An antibody specific for VEGF-B has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any VEGF-B present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After washing away any unbound substances, a detection antibody specific for VEGF-B is added to the wells. Following wash to remove any unbound antibody reagent, a detection reagent is added. After intensive wash a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of VEGF-B bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped, and the intensity of the color is measured.

Background:Â
Vascular endothelial growth factor B also known as VEGF-B is a protein that is encoded by the VEGF-B gene. VEGF-B is a growth factor that belongs to the vascular endothelial growth factor family. In contrast to VEGF-A, VEGF-B plays a less pronounced role in the vascular system: Whereas VEGF-A is important for the formation of blood vessels, such as during development or in pathological conditions, VEGF-B seems to play a role only in the maintenance of newly formed blood vessels during pathological conditions.[1] VEGF-B plays also an important role on several types of neurons. It is important for the protection of neurons in the retina[2] and the cerebral cortex during stroke [3] and of motoneurons during motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.[4] VEGF-B exerts its effects via the FLT1 receptor.[5] VEGF-B has also been found to control endothelial uptake and transport of fatty acids in heart and skeletal muscle.[6][7] VEGF-B has been shown to interact with FLT1.[8][9]
